A Brief History of Martinus Brynde and Maria Rossen

by a Granddaughter

Although born in Germany, my grandmother was Danish by ancestry, her people came from Schleswig-Holstein, a disputed region that changed hands between Denmark and Germany several times over the centuries. According to some family notes, Martin emigrated to the US from Denmark at the age of 19.  After he married, he and his family lived on the Lascelles' farm east of Capron, Illinois from 1910 to 1919.   They moved to Beloit, Wisconsin where they resided until 1929, when they moved to Denver due to my mother's illness.  My mother had severe asthma as a child and Colorado was considered a more suitable climate for people with respiratory conditions.  By this time their two oldest, Minnie and Eleanor, were both married and remained in the Beloit area.
